Jetta Adventures: Charlestown State Park

This week has been a busy week because one I am visiting my girlfriend in Southern Indiana and two we have begun a quest to go on all the great hikes in our home state of Indiana. Our first stop was Charlestown State park in Charlestown Indiana. The park is on protected land off of Highway 62 near an old Munitions Plant.

The south end of the park is filled with remnants of the munition plant along the Ohio River as well as gigantic maple leaves. Huge limestone cliffs as well as small rivers dominate the landscape. It was an amazing place with a great feeling of being near civilization at the same time being alone and immersed in wilderness.

The hike started low at the bottom of a cliff and slowly worked its way up to open fields overlooking a wonderful vista of the Ohio River that went on for miles. The hike down was quite treacherous because there had been a melt and it was a slippery slope to the bottom!

The park is a huge expanse of wilderness and I love the feeling of privacy that hiking in the winter brings. Being willing to take a little cold is highly rewarding in terms of being able to enjoy these hikes without the interruptions and disturbances that come during the summer months. Trips like these are the reason I love my car because I may not have the prettiest car or the mostly stylish but it takes me to these wonderful places that otherwise I would have never seen. I am happy to have a reliable and functional car and thankful I have a wonderful girlfriend to share these awesome hikes with!

Jetta Adventures: Introduction

I'm going to begin writing small segments as a part of this blog and they will center around the things I and my girlfriend or brother do in conjunction with my 2001 Volkswagen Jetta. For all those who don't know my car is a 2001 Black Volkswagen Jetta GL with the 2.0L Gas engine and a 5-speed manual transmission. I received this car as a gift three years ago for my 21st birthday and I have been driving it ever since. The car has about 163,000 miles and counting on it and is my faithful companion on all my trips.

These segments will involve the where and what I do with this car. I hope everyone will enjoy my adventures as much as I do because nothing makes me happier than putting miles on my Jetta and enjoying everything that the United States has to offer. The first edition should be out soon!

Starting Again

I have decided to once again start writing for my own personal blog. It has been awhile but I thought it might be good to put my thoughts out there for others to read not because I want to be read but because I simply want to catalog my thoughts on the automotive world.

I wanted to reintroduce myself because I think I have changed a lot since I first started this blog. I am a car enthusiast at heart, but I am more interested in the realistic side, not the outrageous horsepower numbers or 0-60 times, but it is the day to day merits that matter the most to me. When it comes to cars I am more interested in a 4-cylinder diesel engine than I am a supercharged V-8. I am a self proclaimed diesel fanatic and you may find that one word associated with a lot of my opinions, but that doesn't mean I am closed minded to just diesel I love to hear other opinions on powertrains, features and expectations.

If you are looking for realistic opinions on cars and a person willing to listen to your views on the automotive world I believe that this is the blog for you. I look forward to gaining readership as well as learning more about your views on car culture. Thank you very much.
